Era Business School Dwarka What It Takes To Make A Top B-school

India is burgeoning in the B-School arena. The country has over 5,000 institutes offering MBAs currently with many more waiting in the wings. Rashmi Bharana, Member on the Governing Board of Era Business School Dwarka and EBS Director, Dr. Sanjiv Marwah, talk about what it takes to make a B-School achieve success and stand out in terms of delivering results.

To begin with, a B-School needs to follow best practices. EBS is anchored by the billion dollar Era Group. By sheer inheritance of being a part of Era Group, we have the corporate reach, interface advantage, a hi-tech campus, and most importantly, we have ensured an experienced faculty that is renowned for its pedagogy. The added advantages include regular weekly industry interfaces. EBS Dwarka has a tie up with Dale Carnegie to provide a certification course for our students in communication and presentation. Also very importantly, EBS methodology of teaching is case based, says Dr. Marwah.

The Era Group felt the need for quality B-Schools quite intensely when they scouted for talent. There was an acute shortage, says Dr. Marwah. Era found there was room to groom more Management talent. The yawning gap had to be filled. But the key, here, was quality. It all fell into place when Rashmi Bharana returned from her MBA programme in Singapore. She was exposed to the best B-School practices and helped implement the EBS Blackboard. It takes care of the complete online academic functioning of EBS.

However, when the Era Group began setting up their B-School, Ms. Bharana found the challenges she faced were many. One challenge was that the MBA was losing its charm as we entered this educational field. And the other was the increasing number of B-Schools. Attracting the right student pool had been a big challenge. During those early days, the students that chose to get their MBA from EBS were a set of risk takers. They knew the institute was backed by a huge corporate house, and were willing to take the calculated risk of being educated at EBS.

The B-School delivered. Its 2011 batch has been completely absorbed by the industry. We carry out satisfaction surveys for our students. The scores EBS gets are high. They find the efforts we put in are far more than other institutes do, Prof. Marwah says. EBS Dwarka follows one rule no shortcuts. And that rule has worked. We are here to provide quality education.

In fact, when they first opened EBS Dwarka, they were a little curious about why a student would come opt for an education here as opposed to the other older institutes. Pat came the reply from a student who had done his research. Your school is new, but the faculty and infrastructure are amazing, the fee is reasonable. Everything is perfect. Which, really, is the bottom line.

Easy Ways To Get Parents More Involved At School

Much of a student’s success in school depends upon having parents who are supportive at home. The earlier a parent gets involved in their child’s education, the better. One study shows that the three most important factors of parental involvement include: their perception about whether their child or school even wants them involved; how much they believe they can positively influence their child’s education; and what is okay for them to do with and for their child regarding school. In addition, when parents model behavior that shows education is important, it will have a positive impact on them. Children need to feel that school is an important part of their family life. You’re a teacher – but where do you start?

1. Quite simply: just ask parents to get involved! Sometimes it isn’t a matter of parents not wanting to be involved — it’s a matter of them not knowing how to start. When you have a list of tasks to accomplish for your classroom, don’t assume you must do it all yourself. There are parents who would be happy to help, if they were just asked.

2. Identify the talents, strengths and interests of parents. Those skills could be extremely helpful to the classroom. Send a list home of what opportunities your school has for parents and ask them which ones they are interested in helping with. Jobs could include coordinating fundraisers, managing volunteers, working as paraprofessionals or being a community advocate for their school.

3. If a parent is resistant to becoming more involved, they need to know this: Research has consistently shown that students whose parents are regularly involved in their child’s education will have better school attendance, improved grades and will demonstrate a higher level of motivation and self-esteem than kids whose parents aren’t involved. In addition, parents will be less likely to have to deal with their child dropping out of school, getting suspended, using drugs and alcohol or being violent. That’s convincing evidence!

4. Become a partner with parents, and make them feel part of the team. Some parents feel it is a teacher’s job to teach and don’t know how they, as parents, can help. Offer parents a guideline of everything they can do to support their child’s education at home. This might include suggestions for creating an effective study environment for their child or how they can help their child study. Encourage parents to go on field trips or watch educational programs with their child, which will reinforce your teaching efforts from home.

5. While many parents get involved with school when their child first enters kindergarten, parental involvement drops sharply with each passing grade level. Find ways to keep parents involved as their child progresses through school. If possible, have a space designated at school that serves as a parent room to encourage continued involvement at school.

6. Don’t pre-judge who you think will, or won’t, want to become involved. Even though a child might come from a single-parent or low-income home, it doesn’t mean that parent isn’t just as concerned about their child’s education as others are. Give these parents the same chance to participate in their child’s education as you would middle-class or two-parent families.

Choosing the Right School, Career for You

Generally speaking the average person spends much more time at work then at home. It is a sad fact that we spend 8-10 hours in the office each day and only several hours at home a night before heading off to bed. This makes the choice of career an important one. Do you want to attend a regular college or go to one of the specialized beauty or laser schools? You could specialize in Restylane Training or other such high-demand procedures. On the other hand you may want to focus on dermatology or another area of medicine or you might just be interested in geography and want to pursue a career digging up things in the ground. Whatever your passion might be, there are many programs out there.

The first thing you should do when trying to figure out which career path you’d like to choose is make a list. Take a moment to think of all the things that interest you. This might not necessarily mean you choose things that you excel in. Many skills can be learned as you go through school or start on-the-job training. Next, think about those things that you do not like – things that you would never want to incorporate into a job. This might be important if you end up picking a career track that has a lot of classes in areas you can’t stand.

If you don’t have the time, energy, motivation or money to embark upon getting your bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD then an associate’s or certification may be for you. There are tremendous opportunities out there for people of all walks of life. If you decide to get a certification in something make sure that it is something you are interested in and could see yourself doing. If you decide not to get any additional education your certification may be the driving force for employers to hire you. You don’t want to get stuck in a career you thought you’d like only to find out it is not a fit for you.

If that does happen to you then take a moment to start over again. Make another list – both good and bad things you want to do. Then, see if school is now an option or perhaps another certification will help you on your way. You might think about night classes or getting a night job and going to school during the day. There are adult programs, community education programs – there is something for every schedule. With the age of technology came online classes so you won’t even need to leave the comfort of your own home. However, remember that it might be difficult to learn certain subjects on your own or over the computer, keep this in mind when scheduling online courses.

It is a difficult task choosing a school and a career path. However, there are many options. Take a moment to look through a book or catalog on some of the things you might do if you did attain a degree or certification in a certain area. This might help you make your final decision.

Don’t give up. When the decisions get difficult it is not uncommon for people to run the other direction. But, your future and career goals are important. Take the time to make the right decision so that you can find a career that is fulfilling.

Advantages You Gain by Studying in An International School

In today’s world, the competition among students is unstoppable. It is high time there is a revolution in the education systems and international schools is the answer. These days, education is not all about academics; there is something beyond. International schools in India come in different sizes and shapes and hence it is not always easy to take a broad view of what these schools offer.

But there are certain things that lie common in any of the international schools irrespective of their geographical location. As you read through you will understand better as to why parents prefer an international school to a private or a public school. Due to a high intake of candidates in a public school, there is no possibility to pay individual attention to a particular student. This, in a long term process, limits the growth of a student and affects him in infinitive ways. Creativity is almost dead since the teachers fail to discover the talent of an individual.

In an international school, the best part is that they follow the -NCLB- rule as it is termed in the US, which means to say, -No Child Left Behind-. The faculty of an international school is so particular about the life of an individual. They conduct separate discussion sessions and frequent meetings with parents and keep them updated on their children’s growth. Unlike in any other school, the class size of an international school is comparatively small. This is a great advantage in a lot of ways. Every student will be given individual attention and all his performance will be monitored. The teacher has enough time to train a student in his academic and extra-curricular activities.

They will not need to refer a progress card to remember the student’s advancements whereas in a public school, it takes a quarter year for the teacher to just analyze the growth of an individual. Relating to the above point, since the teacher understands his pupil better, he knows what is good and what is not.

Remember, the faculties undergo hardcore training before they are introduced to the class to give their very first lecture. The children are given freedom to explore themselves and discover a whole new world of creativity. The school stands as an encouraging pillar and supports the student in all possible ways. Their works are always noticed and appreciated. This encourages the students and helps them do great things. The well trained faculties guide them in appropriate ways giving individual attention. This, in the end means, they know what they are doing, and they do a better job.

Generally, in public schools, the whole motive of teaching would be to finish the syllabus, rather than educating. The average teaching time in a public school is around 25 hours a week; each class varying from 50-60 minutes. This overloads the students and brings in them an attitude where they only study to get a degree. In an international school the teaching time is just 16 hours. In most of the schools, the students are taught only four days a week. They make sure the students don’t get drained out.

This not only will help the student to perform well, but also gives the faculty an adequate time to prepare for every lecture. What exists in people’s mind is that they think international schools are often too costly. It should be understood that there’s a reason behind the fee structure. Food is one big factor to be considered. In India, it is a common practice for students to ignore the importance of hygienic living. International schools serve meals of high standards.

The time provided for lunch is also higher when compared to public schools. This is one of the most important features of an international school. Students get to learn about different culture, language, religion and race. It helps build a good community and a friendly environment. This also helps an individual to thrive living in any part of the world irrespective of the people there. International schools Bangalore offer K-12 education. It is recorded that this education system shares the majority of the educational market in India. IB international schools Bangalore have also adapted to this system.

What is The True Education

Education Is one of the chief obstacles to intelligence and freedom of thought.” Bertrand A. Russell (1872-1970) English philosopher, mathematician, and writer.

I would like to touch on the subject of education. As you are all probably getting familiar with my columns, it is not going to be a traditional viewpoint, but more of a pragmatic view.

It has come to my attention that much of education as we know it – formal schooling and the like – has fallen very short of the goal of actually educating someone as defined by the dictionary, which is to instruct or enlighten. How many of us know people who are highly “educated” and don’t have the first clue about how to treat people. Nor do they ever apply the education that they have paid tons of money to acquire. Instead, they squander it as a trophy, a title or a trinket to prove their worth.

“Education is one of the few things a person is willing to pay for and not get.” William Lowe Bryan

Education, unless directed toward our own predetermined outcomes, is a waste of time. Our school systems have become a bastion of political warfare and feel-goodism that adults are waging among themselves. We have forgotten that our children at the epicenter of the fray, especially in the minority community, are paying the price. We don’t want kids to feel upset if they get a bad grade, lose a game or have to reach inside of themselves to tap the character building point of going through a difficult test of any kind, be it a mental, spiritual, physical or moral test.

Education happens as we learn the right and wrong way to spell, add, speak, throw a ball, talk to our peers and respect our elders. We are losing all of these invaluable lessons one day at a time with the current attempt by career politicians to educate our children. The base starts with the parents – involved parents, caring parents, parents who are not afraid to look at circumstances and call the emperor’s clothes for what they are.

So what is the answer Jason? We hear complaints all the time we know the system is failing what do we do?

The answer is knowing the goal of our kids education. Currently, it is designed to teach our kids how to get a job and be good little soldiers marching to someone else’s drum. The climate has changed. How many of you reading this right now are doing what you went to school for, or even in the same profession that you were in 5 years ago?

Our times demand a new type of teaching that is based on outcome and focused on leadership – if not a leader of others, at least a leader of ourselves. Leadership does not mean waiting around for a government to take care of you. Leadership is not living at home until you are 30. Leadership is not blaming others. Leadership is not doing the least you can for the most return. Leadership is not how many beers you can drink or how we can escape the pressure of growth through modern pharmacology ( Xanax, Prozac, etc.).
